Moneylogue Newsletter – SubhShanti Wealth
CEO Note Card

Dear Investor,

If March taught us anything, it’s how rapidly events like the Iran situation trigger market turbulence. While the dust is settling, long-term stability remains uncertain. However, as emphasized in our webinar, the market’s darkest moments closely precede its strongest rebounds. For India, these are windows of opportunity to look past the immediate panic and use these swings to your advantage.

In this edition, our Spotlight explores the evolving opportunities within small-cap companies, a segment that is gradually taking on a larger role in India’s equity landscape as valuations normalize and corporate fundamentals strengthen. Our Company Bulletin highlights exciting home-front milestones, including our new office expansion and welcoming a new team member. We celebrate this growth as we strengthen our presence to better serve you.

As the financial year ends, our Personal Finance Corner offers a practical checklist for year-end tax review, portfolio organization, and maintaining financial health. We are also excited to continue engaging with you through our SSW Navigator initiative. We warmly invite you to join the SSW Navigator educational community to participate in our upcoming webinar this month, where you can be part of the conversation and benefit from insights directly from market experts. I encourage you to explore these insights within the newsletter to further empower your financial journey.

Wishing you and your family a prosperous month ahead.

Time to Go Big on Small Caps!

A More Reasonable Starting Point

Small-cap valuations, which looked stretched about a year and a half ago, have corrected meaningfully. This has created a more balanced environment for investors looking at the segment. Over time, small-cap companies have also increased their presence in the broader market. As per AMFI and internal research (industry AUM data as of 31 December 2025), small caps accounted for about 11% of total market capitalization in CY2019, which has grown to around 19% in CY2025.

Stronger Business Growth

The growth in this segment is also visible in company performance. Data from the Nifty Smallcap 250 universe shows net sales rising from ₹9,158 billion in FY2019 to ₹16,115 billion in FY2025, while profit after tax increased from ₹532 billion to ₹1,335 billion during the same period. This suggests that many small-cap companies have expanded their businesses and improved profitability over the years.

Healthier Financial Position

Balance sheets have strengthened as well. The debt-to-equity ratio declined from 1.46 in FY2019 to around 0.83 in FY2025, indicating that many companies have reduced their leverage and improved financial stability.

Unlock Small-Cap Wealth

Indices like the Nifty Smallcap 250 TRI have delivered stunning 5-10 year annualized returns, hitting the high-teens to mid-20s%, absolutely crushing large-cap competitors! In strong cycles, a consistent SIP has compounded money at over 20% CAGR. Of course, the journey isnt always smooth; those occasional 1-year dips are a natural reminder of short-term market volatility.

To watch small caps reliably build your financial future, we urge you to:

  • Commitment Long Term: Invest for 5-10 years.
  • Smartly Diversify: Spread your risk.
  • Invest Systematically (SIP): Invest consistently, ignoring short-term fear.
  • Ignore Market Timing: Don’t try to guess the perfect moment.

Patience Is Important: As per AMFI, ACE Equity, Bloomberg Internal Analysis; Nifty Smallcap 250 analysis (31 Dec, 2026), small-cap investments can be more volatile in the short term and often move after larger companies stabilize. Investors who approach this segment with a long-term horizon of 3-5 years may be better positioned to participate in potential growth opportunities. Mutual Fund investments are subject to market risks. Please read all scheme-related documents carefully.

The Misunderstood Margin

A few years back, a popular tax myth circulated among resident individuals: “If your income is exactly ₹12.75 lakh, you pay zero tax—but if you earn just ₹1,000 more (₹12.76 lakh), you are suddenly hit with a ₹62,000 tax bill!” This rumor, fueled by social media “finfluencers,” caused widespread panic. People began turning down small raises or bonuses, terrified that crossing the income threshold would instantly wipe out their financial gains.

The reality of the Indian tax system is much more logical. The government has a built-in safety net called Marginal Relief. When your income crosses a specific tax-free threshold by a tiny amount, the law ensures you are not penalized disproportionately. In this scenario, the government simply takes that extra ₹1,000 as tax, effectively lowering your take-home pay back to the ₹12.75 lakh mark. You never lose more money than the extra amount you earned.

The Investor Moral: Don’t let fear-based financial rumors guide major decisions like rejecting a raise or panic-selling. Consult a certified professional & understand tax basics to prevent expensive mistakes.

Last-Minute Tax & Money Hygiene

The financial year ends on March 31. Taking an hour to complete this money hygiene checklist will save you thousands in taxes and set a solid foundation for FY26.

1. The 31 March Tax Sprints

Max out the Old Tax Regime: Fully utilize the ₹1.5 lakh Section 80C limit (via ELSS, PPF, life insurance) and the extra ₹50,000 deduction through NPS (Section 80CCD(1B)). Ensure all health insurance premiums are paid for Section 80D savings.

Submit Your Proofs: Salaried employees must submit investment proofs (rent agreements, premium receipts) to HR immediately. Missing this means excess TDS will be cut from your March salary.

Clear Advance Tax: If your estimated tax liability exceeds ₹10,000 for the year, the 4th and final advance tax installment is due by March 15 to avoid 1% monthly interest penalties.

2. Portfolio Clean-Up

Tax-Loss Harvesting: If you have underperforming stocks or mutual funds, sell them before March 31 to book losses. You can use these losses to offset capital gains and lower your tax bill.

3. Core Financial Hygiene

Plug the Leaks: Review your credit card statements and aggressively pay down high-interest debt. Closing leaks is more powerful than chasing investment returns.

Emergency Reality Check: Ensure you have 6 months of expenses safely parked in a savings account or ultra-short liquid fund, away from market volatility.
